Drug Use & Harm Reduction
Harm Reduction
Harm reduction programs work to prevent the harms associated with drug use, such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV and other infections. Harm reduction programs also provide education, counselling and referrals to people who use substances.
Since 2005 the Smart Works program has provided harm reduction services to community members across Leeds, Grenville and Lanark. The Smart Works program offers 3 programs; Smart Gear, Revive Overdose Response and the Safer Inhalation Program.

Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit Drug-Related Overdose & Death Summary
The purpose of this report is to provide timely trends in drug-related overdoses and deaths at the public health unit level. This is both a syndromic surveillance approach, where evidence from the scene/investigation or preliminary autopsy findings are used to define cases, and the use of toxicology results and conclusions on the cause of death. Local data originates from overdose-related hospital emergency department visits and admissions, the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and from the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit Overdose Reporting Tool. The report is updated monthly.
