What is mental health?

Mental health and well-being is about enjoying life and being able to deal with its ups and downs. It is as important as your physical health. Your mental wellbeing can:

  • Change over time.
  • Be affected by life experiences such as starting school, switching jobs or moving.
  • Depend on the resources and supports available to you.

Everyone can have positive mental health. You can have a mental illness and have positive mental health. Likewise, you can have poor mental health and not have a mental illness. There are things all of us can do to improve our mental health and well-being.
