Position Summary:

Full-time, (1.0 FTE) term status, Public Health Inspector position, or Uncertified Public Health Inspector, with the Environmental Health Department, working 74 hours in a bi-weekly pay period. This term will start ASAP and has an anticipated end date of February 20, 2026. This term can be ended or extended with a minimum two weeks written notice.

The successful incumbent will provide public health inspection duties in the Environmental Health program in a generalized, multi-disciplinary health programs setting, with a focus on Ontario Public Health Standards in Environmental Health.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; those with a degree in a program of instruction approved by the Board of Certification CIPHI;
  • Current Certification by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors; or working towards CPHI Certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in health promotion, and illness and injury prevention strategies (individuals, groups and populations), coalition building and community partnerships;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of public health sciences;
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of community development, social marketing and public policy strategies;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and public relations skills, with capacity to relate to a wide variety of partners internal and external;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Demonstrated initiative, self-direction, flexibility, leadership and decision-making skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team and with other community agencies as well as independently with minimal supervision;
  • Work constructively and contribute to a harmonious and effective work environment;
  • Handle work in a professional manner with tact, diplomacy and confidentiality;
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, able to deal with many competing demands in a calm, professional and independent manner;
  • Solid problem-solving abilities, ability to set priorities and manage conflicting demands;
  • Careful attention to detail;
  • Knowledge and proficiency in use of the Internet and various computer programs in a Windows environment
  • Current immunization in accordance with Health Unit Policy III_5-0_6, including annual influenza immunization as directed by the Medical Officer of Health;
  • Criminal record check;
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.

Salary Range:

Public Health Inspector $79,865.24 to $89,485.24 Annual (1.0 FTE), plus thirteen percent (13%) in lieu of benefits, and six percent (6%) in lieu of vacation.

Uncertified Public Health Inspector $52,352.04 Annual (1.0 FTE), plus thirteen percent (13%) in lieu of benefits, and six percent (6%) in lieu of vacation, unless currently receiving benefits and vacation.
