Infant Formula Shortage

Important Notice! In February 2022, there was a voluntary recall of powdered infant formula produced at an Abbott facility in Sturgis, Michigan. Due to this recall, the factory closed temporarily, which worsened a global shortage of infant formula. There is no current shortage of regular infant formula in Canada. However, there is a shortage of infant formulas for infants with food allergies and certain medical conditions. See this fact sheet from Health Canada for more details on this shortage, along with tips of what parents can do.

This can be distressing situation for parents and caregivers. If you they have made the informed decision to use infant formula, encourage them not to buy more than they need, especially hypoallergenic formula that infants with food allergies need.
