Measles – March 10, 2019

March 10, 2019

With recent cases of measles in Ontario and other areas of Canada, it is recommended to check that clients are up-to-date with their immunizations, including the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine.

As per the Publicly Funded Immunization Schedule for Ontario, adults who have only received 1 dose of MMR vaccine are eligible to receive a second dose:

  • if they are health care workers
  • if they are post-secondary students
  • if they are planning to travel to areas where disease is a concern
  • based on health care provider’s clinical judgement

In most cases, individuals born before 1970 have natural immunity, but may also be immunized. Please see below for more information.

Infants between 6–11 months of age should be immunized if travelling to an area where measles is a concern. Please Note: Two additional doses are required ≥12 months of age and at appropriate intervals.
