5-Step Quick Reference Post Exposure Prophylaxis Guide
This document provides guidance to health care workers (HCWs) in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Counties who are called upon to assess and manage incidents of exposures (percutaneous, mucosal or non-intact skin) to blood or body fluids that are capable of transmitting Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCV), or Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Exposed individuals may include health care workers or emergency service providers, who in the course of their duties accidentally sustain an injury which could mean a potential exposure.
Infection Prevention and Control Resource
Emergency Service Workers (paramedics, fire fighters and police officers) may in the course of their duties be exposed to communicable diseases. This resource educates Emergency Service Workers about how transmission occurs and the risk of occupational exposure; encourages adopting practices and procedures to protect themselves and provides information about the notification process.
