Safe Sleep for Infants 0–12 Months

The Working with Families to Promote Safe Sleep for Infants 0–12 Months of Age Best Practice Guideline Implementation Team is developing a safe sleep resource so that parents, caregivers, staff and partners have the information they need to make an informed decision around safe sleep environments for their infants.

Members have engaged in educational and advocacy activities to decrease the occurrence of unexpected injury and death during sleep for infants’ age 0–12 months. Recommendations chosen to implement:

  • Develop policies that support the implementation of safe sleep practice recommendations in all organizations involved in prenatal, postnatal and community-based family care.
  • Provide continuing education and educational resources regarding safe sleep practices for nursing staff of organizations involved in prenatal, postnatal, and community-based family care.
  • Educate parents/caregivers about safe sleep environments.
