The Integrating Tobacco Interventions into Daily Practice implementation team is working collaboratively with programs within the Health Unit to implement two practice recommendations from the Best Practice Guideline. Most programs already use best practices; however, the BPSO project is helping us develop clear processes for documentation, as well as an avenue to address staff training needs. This will ensure that regardless of which program our clients’ access, they receive consistent and evidence informed effective cessation services. The two recommendations we are working on are;
- Nurses implement minimal tobacco use intervention using the “Ask, Advise, Assist, Arrange” protocol with all clients.
- Nurses should be knowledgeable about community smoking cessation resources, for referral and follow up.
